July 17 Powerleap has announced the new PL-AXP adaptor for Duron/Athlon motherboards to Athlon XP 2200+ or 3200+. The PL-AXP™ is PowerLeap’s first foray into the world of AMD Athlon upgrades. It is an economical upgrade adapter kit that allows you to upgrade older AMD Athlon/Duron-based systems to the latest AMD Athlon XP CPUs. The front side bus of the system no longer being a factor. This is accomplished by altering the multiplier while leaving the FSB the same. This method of “Right-Clocking” allows 200 MHz FSB systems to use a 400 MHz FSB based CPU and still operate at full speed. By increasing the multiplier the same overall speed can be attained!!!

Dec 11, Wow, AMD pulled a Xmas surprise deep price cut out out of their hat! All Thunderbirds 800 & up, and all Durons 750 & up are much lower! We were informed along with the authorized AMD distributors on Dec 7, so all you bought early last week please don't be upset with us. Jul 31, IMPORTANT NOTICE: we have had 8 incidents of customers using Thermaltake's Golden Orb heatsink/fan assy and breaking their processor components on top of it. Make sure you buy the Golden Orb for the Athlon Socket A and not the Intel Socket 370 which will break your processor when installed and is NOT covered under the AMD 1 year warranty. Make sure you have the model that clips on without the twist lock.
Although these processors have socket designs similar to the AMD-K6(r) family
processors, heatsink solutions designed for AMD-K6 family processors should
never be used. Most of these will not conform to the required
dimensions. The new exposed flip-chip design of the PGA AMD Athlon and AMD
Duron processors requires a clip load between 12 and 24 pounds
(typically 16 pounds), a load that may not be met by most older heatsink
designs. A thermal compound, such as thermal grease or phase-change
material, must always be applied between the processor and heatsink as
well. Typically, AMD recommended heatsinks will include the thermal
compound. AMD socket A processor must also NOT be
powered up without a heatsink, they will burn up in 7 seconds and void your
warranty.

Jun 5, AMD has announced the new Athlon(Thunderbird) microprocessor, with enhanced 3DNow! instructions for better integer performance, on-die 256k cache running at full processor speed in the new Socket A packaging. May 1, AMD has announced the new Duron(Spitfire) processor to compete directly with the Intel Celeron, we should have it in June. We shipped all pending orders for AMD except for some K7 700 boxed, K6-2/500 1 year and Asus K7V. Sorry there is a market shortage of these processors again. AMD has discontinued production of the following processors so buy them now if you want some later: AMD K6-2/400 and below, AMD K6-3/400 and 450. The AMD K6-2/450 will be around only for the Q1/2000 but look for the K6-2+ coming out in Q2/2000 on .18 copper and 128k L2 cache(Rumors are that its replacing the K6-III line. Got some great information about for all you old motherboard owners out there, are you sad that you can't update your TX motherboard to a AMD K6-2 400? If not we can make your day, AMD has changed the 2x multiplier to a 6x multiplier on the latest chip design. So you can set the bus to 66Mhz and multiplier to 2x and get 400Mhz = 66Mhz x 6. 75Mhz x 6 = 450Mhz! 83Mhz x 6 = 500MHz!!! All you need is the 2.1-2.2 core voltage that most TX motherboards supply for the old K6 300 processor!!! Hurray, good thinking AMD!!!
Feb 7, the AMD K6-2 400 boxed processors are being shipped out to the authorized AMD distributors this week and we should be shipping them out on or before Feb 14. FIC will probably start shipping the PA2013 2M cache motherboards the week of 2/21, however please keep in mind that unless you are using over 256M of main memory there will be little performance increase over the 1M versions for the $19 more you pay for it...This is per FIC...
