Windows 95 Update
If you use an AMD K6-2 350 or higher with Win 95 and get fatal exception or protection errors on bootup, etc. get this Update from Microsoft. Windows 95 should not be used with Athlon systems it may corrupt your bios(not covered under warranty), Windows 98 and DirectX 7.0A are highly recommended.
AMD K6-2 new core bios update
It appears wintune97 and 98 and any other benchmark will have poor memory write and copy performance if you use a new K6-2 CXT core cpu with an old bios that is not optimized for it. This is regardless of speed (core 26351 only) and no amount of tweaking the chipset bios dram settings will fix it. You must flash the motherboard with the latest bios, and it should fix the problem. So check with your motherboard manufacturer for the latest bios supporting the latest AMD K6-2 core, the number 26351 will be next to the pin 1 designator. Your bios update instructions may not say it specifically but it may be an update for the k6-2 cpu 400 and/or performance. It performs very fast with the new CXT core and new bios, AMD recently stated in a online seminar I attended that there was a 7% increase in performance with write allocation. Otherwise it may have a very slow memory write and copy benchmark. As a last resort, you can download the SetK6 program which can be added to your windows startup folder which will enable the new core and speed up the CXT processor on your motherboard which can't be updated.
